Over several years now the Bow Caddy team interviews with various skippers in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race have involved discussion of VMG running.

So what exactly is VMG running?

Drawing on various expert sources, including Black Jack skipper Mark Bradford and US Americas’ Cup veteran Peter Isler, Crosbie Lorimer explains the principles of VMG running, and what it means for this year’s race to Hobart Race.
